Overview

Firstly, TSTC was established in 1965 as the most sophisticated technical-vocational institute in the country. Most importantly, it’s the only state-supported and multiple-campus technical college in Texas! As a result, the college routinely partners with industry government agencies and other educational institutions to execute its student-centered philosophy. Since the site was last redesigned, it houses information, announcements, and legal documents pertaining to all nine campuses. We worked to streamline the information architecture and focus on future students of all ages. Therefore, focusing on those who come to TSTC for skills to enter the job market, change careers, or improve their own lives and community.

Information Architecture Services

Before creating new page designs, we had to identify which content to keep and delete. Therefore, we did a full audit of nearly 20,000 pages across multiple subdomains. Working from extensive audience surveys, stakeholder interviews, and team collaborations, we drew up flow charts, user personas, and journeys. As a result, we created an updated, streamlined information architecture before wireframing a new refreshed concept.

Student Behavior

As a result, our extensive research revealed many key questions that users arrive at the site with.  These questions were not previously being answered. For instance, how do I pay for college? What kind of academic support is available to me? What kind of career can I pursue, and how do I get there? We focused our strategy and design on these questions while making the experience as smooth as possible for TSTC’s most important audiences.

MOBILE EXPERIENCE

Students are more likely than other user groups to use their smart phones to view the web. As a result, it was crucial that the mobile view was as strong as the desktop version, without losing any function. We made sure the site looks better on a phone than on any other device!
